Recreation Assistant
The City of Show Low announces recruitment for
the position of a Recreation
Assistant.

Salary: $7.00 / hour
The
Job: Assume
certain responsibilities, primarily, the safety and instruction of
recreational activity participants and Show Low DEAL after school
participants. Position reports to the assigned Recreation Leader, or
Recreation Coordinator with indirect supervision by the Recreation Services
Director. Performs other duties as assigned or directed. Additional

Show Low DEAL Vision:
The Show Low D.E.A.L.
(Discovery, Exploration and After school Learning) program is a safe place,
where children have the opportunities to grow. The program will focus on
Discovery of the arts, Exploration of healthy recreation choices and
expansion of After school Learning opportunities. These opportunities for
growth will occur through structured age-appropriate programs that are
centered on Youth Development.
Requirements:
Qualifications include the ability to effectively meet and deal with the
public, ability to communicate verbally and in writing, ability to handle
stressful situations. Applicant must take this position seriously, as the
safety of all participants is the primary responsibility. Must be a
self-starter capable of following through on assignments and duties
assigned. Plan, conduct and instruct age-appropriate activities suitable to
individual and group interests, needs and capabilities. Applicant must be
able to work early afternoon, late afternoon, and evening hours as
determined by the schedule and provide own transportation to program site(s),
meetings, supplies, and donation pick-up.
Certifications:
Preferred certifications include: CPR and First Aid. If necessary we will
train qualified applicants.
Possess a valid driver’s
license.
Selection Process:
Will consist of an application screening with the most qualified candidates
being invited to participate in a personal interview. Appointment subject
to successful completion of background investigation and City-paid,
pre-employment, post-offer, physical examination and drug screening.

This
job is for the classification of RECREATION ASSISTANT at a
Show Low DEAL recreation program site. Listed below are tasks normally
performed to successfully fulfill this job. This list is not inclusive; it
may be necessary to perform other tasks assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS,
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Provide own
transportation to program site(s), meetings, supplies, and donation pick-up.
2.
Possess a valid
driver’s license.
3.
Report to supervisor
any accidents, incidents, or industrial injuries IMMEDIATELY.
4.
Plan and provide
instruction of a variety of recreational activities for youth.
5.
Conduct regular
safety checks of your area, and report immediately to your supervisor any
problems that need to be corrected.
6.
Assist Recreation
leader in the maintenance of records and completion of reports (i.e.
Participation Usage Reports, time cards, incident/accident reports, etc.) as
directed.
7.
Help plan, implement
and publicize special events.
8.
Keep recreation
Leader informed of materials and supplies necessary to conduct programs,
insufficient amount of time to acquire them.
9.
Assist the
recreation leader in the preparation of posters, bulletin boards and other
means of advertisement.
10.
Assist the
recreation leader and maintenance personnel with insuring that your area is
neat and free of health and safety hazards.
11.
Under the direction
of your site recreation leader develop, maintain, and enforce the policies
and area ground rules.
12.
Maintain, inventory
and care for City and School property and equipment.
13.
Attend appropriate
staff meetings, training sessions and workshops as directed.
14.
Represent the City
of Show Low Recreation Services in appearance, professionalism, and
integrity. (remember who our customers are)
15.
Clean all program
areas after completion of activities. (Sweep and spot mop cafeteria, check
and clean bathrooms, wipe down and pick up tables.)
16.
The ability to move
to a variety of sites as needed, and to work with staff as assigned by the
Coordinator.
17.
Conduct and
supervise appropriate programs, activities in a leadership capacity. Lead
games and creative activities as planned or directed by site supervisor.
18.
Maturity, good
judgment, and willingness to accept responsibilities.
19.
Assist with
room-set-ups (moving tables/chairs etc.).
20.
Selecting
recreational activities suitable to individual and group interests, needs
and capabilities.
21.
Good communication
skills.
22.
Genuine interest in
the well being of children.
23.
Respect for and
sensitivity to all children, parents, and staff, etc in respect to their
culture, disabilities, socio-economic background, sex, sexual orientation,
religion, etc.
24.
Recruit youth
participants.
