The Show Low Police Departments Special Response Team (SRT) was developed in 1998 in response to the ever-increasing needs of Law Enforcement agencies and communities in Navajo County. The team and its equipment are generally funded through grants made possible by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Due to the continued increase in demand for the team’s services the team will soon be expanding to include members from other local police agencies such as the Navajo County Sheriffs Office and the Winslow Police Department. The ultimate goal is to have fully operational teams, one for the north county and one here in the south. Both teams would support each other with interchangeable tactics, training and equipment.
The SRT has been deployed all over Navajo County to assist with search and rescue operations, apprehension of known serious and violent felons and in the execution of high risk search warrants and arrest warrants.
Members of the SRT Team have attended extensive training, including basic SWAT School through the Utah County Sheriff's Office, various advanced SWAT Schools, as well as courses in active shooter, chemical munitions, distraction devices, suspect tracking, and explosive breaching.
In 2007 the Show Low Police Department purchased an armored vehicle from a local security company and modified it to suit their needs. Special, specific modifications were made to the vehicle with the help of the local NAVIT students. Their help was very much appreciated and allowed for the modifications to be done at a very low cost. The vehicle has proven beneficial to further support the mission of the SRT and greatly enhance the safety of our officers and the public.
