The City of Show Low Wellness Committee is excited to offer the Show Low Shape Up fitness competition that began January 1, 2008.  The goal of this program is to challenge and encourage overweight employees and their spouses to shed pounds and learn to change their lifestyle in a safe and recommended manner through a comprehensive diet and exercise plan with friendly competition.    The Committee could not have provided this program without our sponsoring gyms - Body Works Health & Fitness Center and Etch Fitness Center.

The Program:

  • Was open to all city employees, both fulltime and part-time, and spouses.
  • The competition will be for 12 weeks (from January 1st to April 1st)
  • Participants must be considered obese with a BMI over 30.
  • Each participant was required to pay a registration fee of $50, which will go to the over-all Male and over-all Female winners.
  • Each participant was required to become paying members of their team gym.
  • Each participant was required to get their doctor’s approval of the exercise and diet plans within 2 weeks of receipt.

Each gym has provided:

  • A personal work out program for each member of their team
  • A personal nutrition plan for each member as a guideline
  • 1 weekly one-on-one work out for each team member
  • 2 team work outs per month

We had 8 people sign up:  Jason Mangum, Jim Lewis and his wife Julie, Connie Kakavas, Linda Stabenow, Judge Steve Price, Mary Atteberry and her husband Rob.  The teams were split into The Etch Eliminators and The Body Workers.
